The dangers or riding a mobility scooter in the street

Mobility scooters are great for those who need help getting around their home, stores, restaurants and other areas. But, if not used properly, a ride on a mobility scooter can turn tragic. Many people use mobility scooters on the roads of Orlando, Florida, which is not a safe or smart thing to do. Today, we will explore the dangers of riding your mobility scooter in the street.

Riding a mobility scooter on the side of the road is never a good idea, even if it is permitted. These scooters, although beneficial, do not move very fast. This means that you could very well hold up traffic, causing some drivers to become infuriated, which could lead to a road rage incident.

When you ride a mobility scooter in the street, you are not protected from the elements. There is zero protection of your body when on a scooter. If debris shoots up from underneath your tires, it could hit you in the face, causing serious injuries. If you are in an accident, you can easily be thrown from the scooter onto the road.

What if the scooter hits a pothole? Even traveling at a slow rate of speed can lead to a crash. Your front wheel could wind up popping or getting stuck in the pothole. This can also throw you from the scooter.

Lastly, since scooters move slowly, you have little time to react to a vehicle cutting in front of you or an animal darting out into the roadway.

Should you suffer an injury while riding your mobility scooter, be sure to call 911 for medical assistance and to file a police report. Even if you are riding in the street, vehicles simply cannot just run you down because you are holding up traffic. Be sure to protect your rights if injured in such an accident.
