Road Hazards That Cause Auto Accidents

Florida residents know that they need to be careful when driving on the road. Even when they are taking leisurely drives to places like the Keys or Miami Beach, they need to follow the rules of the road to make sure that they get to their destinations safely.

One thing that people quickly realize or should realize is that accidents can happen no matter how safe you are. Hazardous road conditions also play a part in many accidents.

Heavy Rain

If an area has experienced heavy rain causing roads to flood, drivers need to avoid these areas at all costs. Many drivers assume that they can make it through a flooded area because it doesn’t look so bad, but things could drastically change on a dime. A road that was only slightly flooded can become overwhelmed with water in mere seconds, and anyone driving through it would have their car submerged.

Oily Roads

Another reason that people get into car accidents is that they drive on a road that has recently been rained on after a long dry spell. The problem with this is that during dry spells, contaminants like oil, dirt, and grease build up on the surface of the road. When the rain finally comes, the water from the rain mixes with the oil, creating a dangerously slippery surface. If you live in an area that has had this type of weather experience, it may be best to not drive for a while. If you have to drive, exercise extreme caution.

Driver Fatigue

Another common cause of auto accidents is driver fatigue. People with busy lives are constantly driving from one place to another, going to work, picking up the kids from school, or simply taking care of errands. An overwhelmed life can lead to fatigue, causing drivers to be less alert when they’re on the road. This makes them less able to deal with potentially dangerous road conditions.
