In a tragic story out of Altamonte Springs, Florida, which is about 20 minutes from Orlando, an 18-month baby girl was killed in a car versus bicycle crash. The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. on June 2, at the corner of Eden Park Road and Maitland Boulevard.
The two adults, a 36-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, were both on bicycles on the sidewalk. One of the parents was pulling a bicycle trailer with the baby inside.
A woman described as being in her 40s lost control of her vehicle and drove up over the curb and onto the sidewalk. She struck both the man and the woman, as well as the trailer. The man and woman were critically injured, with the woman requiring surgery. The baby, however, was pronounced dead at the crash site.
According to the man who called 911, the woman tried to crawl to the man, who was lying on the sidewalk with his bicycle on top of him. She kept screaming, “My baby, my baby.” A nurse, who just happened by the crash site stopped to offer assistance, said the baby had already passed away when she arrived.
It is not known if the woman has been charged in relation to the crash yet or what charges she might face. The crash is still under investigation, but police report that the woman who struck the bicyclists was cooperating with police.
When you lose someone in a car accident, the emotional toll is devastating. This is especially true when it is a child. One way to hold the person responsible is to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the at-fault driver. While this cannot bring back your lost loved one, it can help you recoup some of your financial losses.
